I don't see any "women in prison" movies on your list, so shame on you for not including Black Mama, White Mama. :)

Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: You Need More Films

Clearly you need more shows. You have missed (I think, in backwards-time order): Slumdog Millionaire, The Edukators, Salaam Bombay, Return of the Secaucus Seven (toss in Matewan and Lianna in the relevance category), Tootsie, My Dinner With Andre, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Harold and Maud, It’s a Wonderful Life … pretty low on the 30s screwball comedies … Bringing Up Baby, You Can’t Take it With You, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, My Man Godfrey are all "relevant." (You might not think it about Bringing Up Baby, but Cary Grant puts on a dress in it and says he’s gay … and yup, he uses that word! In 1938!)

TV documentaries get on the list but no Ken Burns’ Civil War?

And good heavens. A “Most Relevant” list without a single film starring quite possibly the world’s biggest film star, Amitabh Bachchan? No “Sholay”?!? Catch up on your Bollywood, yaar. Millions of kids acted out these scenes in thousands of villages across multiple countries for years … here, our hero (Amitabh, as a Butch Cassidy type) is caught by the evil villain Gabar Singh (has anyone ever smirked better?), so our feisty heroine must try to save him with a dance! Even over broken glass! It’s the Magnificent Seven, Good the Bad and the Ugly, and Butch Cassidy with music and dancing.

Lyrics are basically “as long as I have life, I will dance, love never dies, it doesn’t fear death, if my anklet breaks it’s nothing, if my leg is wounded it’s nothing, I will dance …”;feature=relmfu

Oh, and I did NOT see the Sound of Music on your list ... !!!!!

I'll second The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Terrific stop motion animation. Good for people with or without kids. Nice soundtrack too.

Thank you. There have been times when I've thought no-one else had even heard of 'El Topo', let alone seen it.

I somehow feel that the Dead's cowboy dress style and music in 1970 was influenced by El Topo..........................

I kept thinking that the main character looked like Jerry at this time.

Thanks for the reminder. That's one intense, thick flick. I have a DVD that Abkco put out. I haven't seen it in a while. Might be just the thing for another hot day that feels like 100 (38 C).

No Shane?

A little too recent in its bias, methinks...

294 just can't all be relevant.
